Occupation

Marriage
He married Lucia (surname unknown)
Children
He had Sebastiano on 11 November 1621 in Bologna in the parish of S. Leonardo
* Son of 1st Marriage
Girolamo Maria had bad luck. His mother died at his birth or shortly afterwards.
If it hadn't been for this, his story and that of his descendants might have been very different.
His father Ercole Zani was a notary. He must have been fairly well to do because he managed to marry women from well known smart families. Girolamo's mother was a Landini who we can see mentioned in a Landini tree which goes back to 1421
Ercole must have been older when Girolamo was born. There is record of another son of this marriage Ulpiano born 1566 who was also a notary (Ridolfi card 244).
Ercole became a notary in 1544 (Ridolfi card 206)
Therefore he must have been born about 20 years before that in about 1524.
Ulpiano was born in 1566 when his father would have been about age 22 and Ippolita his mother possibly about 18 or 19
Girolamo Maria was born in 1571 when his father would have been about 47 and Ippolita over 40.
Perhaps this explains her death. Older mothers are at much greater risk than young women.
So
Ercole married again in 1582
To a woman from another rich and powerful family The Beroaldi
and had several more children
Giovanni in 1579 (Ridolfi card 219)
Lucio in 1585 (Ridolfi card 235)
What happened to our Girolamo Maria in those 11 years? Perhaps he was brought up by Granny Landini or Granny Zani (Phillipa Mattugliani)
But what seems clear is that the new wife had no interest in the children from the first marriage. She was forging her own dynasty as becomes clear when one sees the Silvio Costa Tree made for her descendants. Our line of the family with Landini blood sinks into obscurity.
It could be the case of the wicked stepmother!
